Richfield Preview In the Books!

I like what Captain Parkah said after our second game was done, "We can all take something from this and use what we learned to be better. " Our first game vs. Richfield was really interesting.  In the first half we only had 2 field goals.  We were 12 for 13 from the line and this kept us in the game.  We got ourselves into a 23 point hole.  It was strange like being in the twilight zone. The second have was the bi-polar opposite. Scored more field goals in the first minute of the 2nd half than we did the entire first half!  The guys never gave up and hustled their way to within five.  With 2 minutes left we had five starters on the bench fouled out. The team came out with a 7 point loss.  It was really amazing what the guys did in the 2nd half. What I learned is that if the guys had come out from the get go and played like they did in the second half, we'd have beet them by 20.  Our free throw shooting was great.
I was really proud of how these boys battled and never gave up. I think most teams of lesser character would have.
Our game against the defending State Champs, South Sevier Rams, was tough.  We did really well defending them.  We actually led in the first quarter and kept them under 10 points the first quarter.  Unheard of for South Sevier.  Our struggle was we could not get our shot's to fall.  The guys worked hard and again never quit. We really frustrated them defensively and at one point their coach was called for a technical.
The guys are great! I agree with Marv Hall, we always have the toughest 2A pre-season in the state and this is the time to learn and get better and be ready for season and post season play. I liked what I heard the team commit to after the games to become better.
The vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion when no one else is watching.”        -Anson Dorrance-

p.s. Check out our guest Photographer Jarom Schill during the South Sevier game below.  He did really great. I'm thinking of making him a regular Photog!

Pre-Season Begins in Panguitch

It was a Barn Banah in Panguitch last night! We played so well. We shot 50% from the field, 35% from 3pt. land, we out rebounded, had less turn over's and of course the guys played their guts out. Panguitch went to the line 33 times. They were 20 for 33 from the foul line. Our guys went to the line 7 times. We were 6 for 7. We didn't get to the line for the first time until roughly 2and half minutes left in the 3rd quarter. A little lop sided to say the least, especially when both teams were aggressive. Still with a minute left we had a one point lead, we just needed to take care of the ball. We had a turnover and lost the lead and then after a one for two from the foul line from Panguitch leaving us down 2 and .2 on the clock Ryan West baseball passed it to Justin Prisbrey who caught it in the air and Jordanesquely shot it from well beyond the half line and swooshed it and then landed on his feet! It was beautiful, one of the most beautiful things I've seen! The official's waved it off, no good! Coach Shurtliff pleaded the case, because it truly did leave his hands before the buzzer rang. The official consented that it did leave his hands before the buzzer went off, but that in officiator clinic's they were taught that that is just not enough time to do what he did. I say it was the longest tip in history! It was exciting and fun!! These guys are still the kings of heart and hustle! I love them! We are so appreciative of the outstanding parent, schoo and community support last night.  Everyone had to drive home in a snow storm, so thanks. Mama Stacie
