I like what Captain Parkah said after our second game was done, "We can all take something from this and use what we learned to be better. " Our first game vs. Richfield was really interesting. In the first half we only had 2 field goals. We were 12 for 13 from the line and this kept us in the game. We got ourselves into a 23 point hole. It was strange like being in the twilight zone. The second have was the bi-polar opposite. Scored more field goals in the first minute of the 2nd half than we did the entire first half! The guys never gave up and hustled their way to within five. With 2 minutes left we had five starters on the bench fouled out. The team came out with a 7 point loss. It was really amazing what the guys did in the 2nd half. What I learned is that if the guys had come out from the get go and played like they did in the second half, we'd have beet them by 20. Our free throw shooting was great.
I was really proud of how these boys battled and never gave up. I think most teams of lesser character would have.
Our game against the defending State Champs, South Sevier Rams, was tough. We did really well defending them. We actually led in the first quarter and kept them under 10 points the first quarter. Unheard of for South Sevier. Our struggle was we could not get our shot's to fall. The guys worked hard and again never quit. We really frustrated them defensively and at one point their coach was called for a technical.
The guys are great! I agree with Marv Hall, we always have the toughest 2A pre-season in the state and this is the time to learn and get better and be ready for season and post season play. I liked what I heard the team commit to after the games to become better.
The vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion when no one else is watching.” -Anson Dorrance-
p.s. Check out our guest Photographer Jarom Schill during the South Sevier game below. He did really great. I'm thinking of making him a regular Photog!
